Postmenopausal women more prone to dry eye symptoms

Recent study results revealed that a substantial number of postmenopausal women suffer from dry eye related to the dysfunction of the meibomian gland. The study evaluated 939 postmenopausal women having an average age of 65 years for dry eye utilizing the Schirmer's test, meibomian gland status and symptoms. The dry eye classifications fell into one of three catetories: aqueous-deficient dry eye with no meibomian gland blockage; mised dry eye with some signs of meibomian gland blockage or evaporative dry eye with signs of meibomian gland blockage. What researchers found was that over 90% of the women had some form of meibomian gland dysfunction leading them to conclude that meibomian gland dysfunction is a major contributor to dry eye disease. VisiVite's Dry Eye Relief is the only oral dry eye supplement that addresses Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MDF) by providing the main chemical component of Meibomian gland secretions, phytosterols. It is patented by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.*
