Since the beginning of 2023, several eye drops and lubricants have been recalled by the Food and Drug Administration.

Another recall was issued in August and this time it was for Dr. Berne's MSM drops, Castor Oil eye drops, and Solution Eye Drops. This recall was due to bacterial and fungal contamination as well as the presence of MSM, which is an unapproved and illegally marketed ingredient.

The latest recall follows previous recalls of EzriCare and Delsam Pharma's Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops and Delsam Pharma's Artificial Eye Ointmentsas well as Apotex's Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution and Parmedica Purely Soothing 15% MSM Drops.

Thankfully, none of these companies are linked to one another and consumers should not be fearful of all artificial tears and eye drops. None of the major manufacturers or major pharmaceutical companies have had any contamination issues with any of their products. Anyone who experiences an adverse reaction after using an eye drop or lubricant, no matter the manufacturer, should stop use immediately and contact their doctor.
