Macular degeneration adversely affects senior eye health by causing retinal atrophy . When this occurs, it is known as dry, or atrophic macular degeneration. Dry Age-related macular degeneration symptoms include the formation of drusen and atrophy of retinal pigment. In approximately 10% of patients, dry macular degeneration progresses to wet macular degeneration. This is also known as exudative macular degeneration. which results in the abnormal growth of new retinal blood vessels, known as neovascular membranes, that typically leak protein and bleed below the retinal surface. If located in the center of the retina, this can cause abrupt and severe vision loss.

The National Institutes of Health Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), published in 2001, demonstrated that high dose nutritional supplements for macular degeneration slowed the progression of this disease. However, while this study proved, for the first time, that vision could be stabilized, it failed to show visual improvement. Additionally, 6% of patients experienced some urinary tract side and gastrointestinal side effects from the high Zinc levels.

A subsequent study, the Lutein Antioxidant Supplementation Trial (LAST) showed that when the antioxidants used the the Age Related Eye Disease Study were combined with 10 mg or more of Lutein, that vision improved in a significant number of patients.

VisiVite i-Defense Yellow Macular Degeneration Nutritional Formula utilizes the important information from each of these groundbreaking studies.

VisiVite i-Defense Yellow Formula uses each of the five ingredients in the Age Related Eye Disease Study, but makes the following important improvements:

Zinc is reduced from 80 mg to 40 mg daily, to reduce the urinary tract and gastrointestinal side effects experienced by 6% of the patients in the study. As a result, VisiVite i-Defense Yellow Formula has less than a 0.1% incidence of side effects that result in having to discontinue the supplement.

10 mg of FloraGLO brand Lutein, derived naturally from Marigold Flowers, is added, based upon the results of the Lutein Antioxidant Supplementation Trial which showed vision improvement in people that had macular degeneration. This is the highest quality Lutein available in any macular degeneration nutritional formula.

Unlike other manufactures that use synthetic dl-Alpha Vitamin E, VisiVite uses naturally derived d-Alpha Vitamin E.

Eyesight better than it was a year ago

I was told about Visivite by a friend of mine who said his macular degeneration was almost corrected after a few years of your using your gold formula...I started using the gold formula just about a year ago. We winter in Florida and this past spring I had my yearly eye exam and when the dostor was finished he commented to me saying words to this effect "Didn't you tell me that you were taking something to help with your eyes" i told him yes that I was using Visivite for the past year ..His comment suprised me when he said" Your eye sight is better than it was last year. I am 88 years old

In response to your request that I tell my story about the vitamin I take for my macular degeneration: I was ordered to take this by my eye doctor and had so much good luck. The luck is that I can read the small print in the phone book and have been able to do so for the years I have been taking the Yellow Formula Vitamin. He actually told me he was going to write a paper including the good results I have had from taking this vitamin. Needless to say, I will continue taking them.

Question: If I'm already taking VisiVite i-Defense Yellow and add Dry Eye Relief, wouldn't I be getting too much Vitamin E?
Answer: There is no vitamin E in the Dry Eye Relief formula.
