The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent a warning letter to Amazon regarding the sale of eye drops that have not been recognized as safe and effective in treating dry eye and pink eye symptoms.

In response to the letter, Amazon said that it is in the process of removing seven eye drops that have not met the FDA approval. Some of the offending eye drops listed in the letter are Similasan Pink Eye Relief, Can-C Eye Drops, Optique 1 and OcluMed.

Other companies, including Walgreens, and CVS, were sent warning letters against manufacturing or marketing of specific unapproved eye products. Consumers are advised against using 26 over-the-counter eye drops due to risk of infection and potential vision loss.
