For macular degeneration patients who still have some reading vision, a new Android app offers an alternative to the Amsler grid charts handed out by their doctors' offices and enables them to monitor their vision.
The unique app was developed by an ophthalmologist who specializes in retina/macula diseases after he noticed that his patients often misplaced or lost the Amsler grids he gave them.
The AMD eye app is especially designed for the macular degeneration patient and has the following features:
- An Amsler grid which the user can set up either daily or weekly alerts for.
- Additional educational information about macular degeneration.
- The patient's personal daily Amsler grid recording cannot be uploaded thus ensuring the privacy of the patient.
