The Beautiful Skin Forever study revealed the benefits supplementing with lutein and zeaxanthin has on the skin.
The double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved healthy women and men between the ages of 18 and 45 who had mild to moderate dry skin and it took place over a 12-week period. The study participants either were given a placebo or lutein and zeaxanthin, molecules that are often derived naturally from marigold extract comprising carotenoids that are also found in the macula of the retina.
Researchers found that the participants who had the lutein and zeaxanthin supplementation had improved skin tone, skin lightening/brightening, photo-protection and firmness. Zeaxanthin and Lutein are found in all VisiVite AREDS2 eye vitamins as well as those for people without macular degeneration seeking visual health supplementation.
